International General Certificate of Secondary Education - (IGCSE)

New Horizon International School has provided the IGCSE programme since 1998, which is accredited by the University of Cambridge International Examinations ( CIE ), United Kingdom. In 2005 the school was granted accreditation by Edexcel International London Examinations GCE and IGCSE qualifications. Both accreditations are under license of the Egyptian Ministry of Education and supervised by the British Council in Egypt


Enrolment Requirements

Incoming students must present a third preparatory certificate of completion for Egyptian nationals. Non-Egyptians must provide a transcript, from private schools, indicating completion of 9th grade.

Placement Test

All applicants must successfully complete entrance tests for English language and Mathematics, administered by New Horizon International School.

Tutors

Tutors are selected according to qualifications and relevant experience. Training attendance for upgrading is provided by ( CIE ) through the British Council in Egypt.

Assessment

Monthly assessment reports are provided by every teacher. Parent/teacher meetings are held to discuss and evaluate students’ performance. A mock exam is held in March to provide forecast and evaluation.

Extra Curricular Activities

Various activities are available to our IGCSE students including sports, universities entry tours, trips and community projects to develop students’ standards through integrated activities.

Cambridge Beacon School Award

Cambridge School Award was granted twice to New Horizon International School for the years 2003 and 2004 during ceremonies that were held by Cambridge International Examinations and the British Council, for schools in Egypt. The Cambridge School Award is in recognition of New Horizon International School being a “ quality example of excellence”. The prestigious award confirms our ongoing programme of quality assurance in Egypt and is one that is fully supported by the Ministry of Education, CIE and the British council. Facilities, teaching standards, student achievement and organization are some of the criteria on which our school was selected.

Inspection Report for New Horizon international School

An unannounced inspection to New Horizon International School takes place each year by the University of Cambridge International examinations and the British Council.
The visitors are given a tour around the school. The following remarks have been taken from the inspector’s reports. “Two classes were observed during the visit, students were given ample opportunity to contribute to the lesson and were all fully involved and on task. Information was given clearly and precisely and the atmosphere was one of encouragement and commitment”. “The school is professionally run and maintained with a fully dedicated staff”. Points for Action / Recommendations: “None; this is a Beacon School and is an outstanding example of good practice ”. The inspector and his colleague from the British Council are also shown samples of students’ work, which is of a consistently high standard.

Achievement

The University of Cambridge International Examinations ( CIE ) recognized Omar Hassib as a ‘Top in the World’ student in Economics. Omar was awarded the “High Achievers Certificate” in a ceremony that was held at the British Embassy in Cairo on Thursday 8th March 2007. Omar is the only student in Egypt to receive ‘Top in the World’. In March 2010 Shereen Mohamed Alaa was recognized as ‘Top in Egypt’ student in Business Studies. The award recognizes three categories: Top in the World, Top in the Region and Top in Egypt.
