School Philosophy
At New Horizon International School, children thrive in a stimulating environment. We provide this environment by offering challenging and interesting programmes that will not only educate a child, but will enrich their overall learning experience.

 School Administration:
Students in our international department follow a programme based on the British national curriculum which is supplied by the Department of Education in the United Kingdom. From the youngest students, in Foundation One, to the students in Lower Senior Three, a curriculum which caters for all aspects of academic, creative, physical and personal development is provided.

While the core subjects of English, mathematics and science are central to our curriculum, students experience a broad range of subjects including cultural studies, information and communication technology, art and design and personal, social and health education. All students also receive lessons in Arabic, religion and social studies beginning in Year One, based on the Egyptian national curriculum for these subjects. French is the second foreign language beginning in Year Two.

A cumulative assessment programme provides an on-going record of student achievement in all subject areas, and is combined with British national curriculum tests to assure that the highest academic standards are sought and maintained. All teachers are qualified based on the standards set by the Department of Education in the United Kingdom.

Enrolment
Children entering Foundation must be 4 years of age before October 1. Acceptance is based on availability and skills and potential evaluation of the child.

Parents wishing to transfer their children to New Horizon (Foundation 2 – IGCSE) can submit an application beginning in May. Acceptance is based on availability, review of recent school records and the passing of entrance examinations appropriate for the class the student will be entering.

The school year begins in September and ends in Late May/early June.

British International Programme At New Horizon International School
The international curriculum offered at New Horizon International School is based upon the British National Curriculum at Key Stages Two and Three.  The method of assessment used is based upon the procedures and curricular statements provided by the Department of Education of the United Kingdom.  The internal assessments followed at New Horizon are modeled on the guidelines of the National Curriculum – for example, question structure, key skills and marking schemes.

The international section makes use of the teaching resources and textbooks specifically designed for the British National Curriculum.  A variety of assessment techniques are used throughout the programme including continuous assessment, projects, student self-assessment, pop quizzes, end of unit tests and two sessions of internal examinations. The emphasis throughout the programme is to develop each student's body of knowledge, their understanding of key skills/concepts and their ability to use the knowledge that they have gained.

The curriculum content in all the core subjects at New Horizon together with the Egyptian Ministry curriculum will provide each student with the necessary skills, knowledge and preparation for any of the Secondary High School programmes on offer at New Horizon.  We offer a choice of Egyptian National Curriculum and the IGCSE.

Full details of the National Curriculum are available on the Internet KS3 National Curriculum website. www.curriculum.qca.org.uk.
